Mr and Mrs Rutland were extremely happy in their West Sussex home within the beautiful South Downs National Park. However, they felt there had always been a crucial room missing. They decided to extend their living space and add a substantial, oak-framed garden room. They enhanced not only their property but their lifestyle by leaps and bounds.
“We knew what we wanted but were reluctant to manage the project ourselves,” explains Mrs Rutland. “We had worked on a few different property and found dealing with the planning process very arduous indeed,” she adds.
Project Brief : Oak Frame Garden Room with Direct Glazing
The Sussex Hardwood team managed the complete project which meant Mr and Mrs Rutland were able to hand over all of the following :
- sourcing and liaising with a local architect experienced in oak frame construction
- the successful submission of the planning application
- engaging a local building contractor
- liaison with the National Park officials
- the purchase and installation of the main structural oak frame
- the supply and installation of all the direct glazing, oak doors and casement windows.
Why choose Sussex Hardwood?
“We discovered that Sussex Hardwood had workshops locally. We also liked the fact that they were a family run firm with significant longevity in the team. It gave us confidence that they were a trustworthy company from the start.”
“It gave us peace of mind to know Jeremy was managing the entire build from start to finish. This continuity meant the project flowed seamlessly and efficiently with no stress or worry for us whatsoever.”
Mrs Rutland says that the garden room has surpassed all expectations. It is now one of their favourite spot in their home.
“We use the room all year round as it’s so bright, light and inviting in summer. Thanks to the underfloor heating it is so cosy in the cooler months. It’s such a joy to watch the seasons changing through the garden views and we absolutely love it.”
The couple does not hesitate to recommend the Sussex Hardwood Company to many friends and neighbours. Especially as they all share their enthusiasm for the high quality of work produced. After the final inspection, and, in a nod to his expertise, Jeremy received a special mention from Chichester Planning Department. They described the team’s workmanship as ‘outstanding’ – Mr and Mrs Rutland agree wholeheartedly.
